New years day after coming home from partying at Jessies the night before we discovered our home had been burglarized by person or persons unknown. It was a sick feeling and a hell of a way to start the new year. Of course I was hung over as hell and this was the last thing I wanted to deal with, especially in the state I was in. I cautiously entered the house to find our TV, DVD Player, Playstation 2, and cell phone gone. After searching the house futher we were relieved to find that nothing esle had been taken and our dog (who was in the house at the time) was not injured. Of course the next step was to call the police and make a report of the crime.
The police arrived about 20 minutes after the initial call and walked through the house to make sure no one was lingering about and all was safe. He took all the necessary information and gave me a sheet of paper on which to list all stolen items. This had to be sent to our local police precinct. We were also told that someone from the detective division would be getting in touch with us for a follow-up.
Keep in mind that there was no investigation of the crime scene like finger printing or trying to trace the cell phone etc. This we quickly found out is a myth. In most cases this simply is not done and obviously not importaint enough to waste their time on. After all, no one was killed or injured so why bother. It was just some material things taken by someone who needed them more than we did.
Other than getting a report for insurance purposes (which they did not even ask for) there was no point in calling the police at all. I am sure I will never recover the property that was stolen and feel very fortunate that no one was hurt or killed in the incident. So, if you are lulled into a sence of security that the police care, think again.
In some instance's I guess crime does pay.

If I may quote from "Raising Arizona":
"If you want good Donuts, call the Police. If you want to solve a crime, call the FBI".
Well, don't think the FBI gives a fuck either but hey....
I remember back in the day (seems everything I refer to is back in the day LOL.) They really gave a damn and made every effort to find the Villins. Today? I am not so sure....
