Today is Valentines day. A day for which you express your love to a loved one or family member. My question is, do we really need to observe a specific day of the year to convey our feelings for another? This has always seemed rather strange to me. Other than the fact that this country loves holidays in one form or the other, this one seems so unnecessary. I do not know about anyone else but I for one do not need a special day to convey my feelings to my loved ones. I do it every day and I do it without running out and buying flowers, candy and cards.
I think this day is more for the retailers than anything else. People by and large are gullible and the retailers know it. Over time people have been duped into believing that on this so called holiday they just have to run out and buy something for their significant other. Not doing so they feel could lead to a good chastising or no sex for a week etc. The retailers know this and the heavy advertising blitz begins. Add all this together and what do you get? Cha Ching at the registers.
Tell your loved ones every day that you love them and keep your money in your pocket. You are going to need it for all the other holidays that follow.
Yea! You are right but, I love to see the flowers, the heart ballons and candy,It makes me feel Some kind of good.I love you!!!!!!!
Posted by: Hot mama at February 14, 2006 09:31 PMOh you are so right! But I kind of like it because with our busy busy lives we sometimes tempt to forget about the loved ones not in your imidiate area....so the Halmark holiday kind of makes it a set date where you definatly remember, you kind of have no choice.LOL
But all the materials are not nessesary.Thats just commercialism, big time.Altho.....I liked getting the cards and flowers.:-)
Mr.Valentine is just a very cool guy.:-)
Point well taken :-)
